Doris LOWRY Obituary
September 22, 1923 - January 14, 2016 Doris Lowry died Jan. 14 at her home in Van Nuys. She was 92. Born Doris Brown in Omaha, Neb., Lowry moved to San Francisco when she turned 18, and then to Los Angeles. There, she worked as a U.S. Deputy Marshal, escorting female prisoners and working in the offices. When authorities confiscated millions in counterfeit money, she appeared in a photograph amid the fake cash. She married Donald Lowry in 1948. The two had four children, who she devoted herself to raising. A gregarious person, Lowry was featured in a 2002 Los Angeles Times piece written by her son, Brian, which brought her together with "Everybody Loves Raymond" co-star Doris Roberts. The article, titled "When Doris Met Doris," explored similarities between the food-pushing mother in the series and her namesake. Survived by her children Brett, Cathy Diem and Brian (her oldest son, Bruce, predeceased her); grandchildren Scott Diem, Erica Preus, Alexandra and Jack Lowry; and two great-grandchildren, both born in 2015. Funeral services will be private.
Published in the Los Angeles Times from Jan. 15 to Jan. 16, 2016
