Dorothy M. Milliner Obituary
September 4, 1921 - June 5, 2015 Dorothy M. Milliner died peacefully on June 5, 2015 at the age of 93 after a brief hospital stay. Dorothy was born in Spokane, Washington on September 4, 1921. She moved to Los Angeles, California as a young girl and lived in Granada Hills, California since 1958. She attended Chouinard Art Institute (now California Institute of the Arts) in the 1940s and worked in the aerospace industry designing and drawing engines and other engineering parts and machines. She was an accomplished artist working in oils, watercolor, acrylic, pen and ink, and silk screen. She also painted clothing and did needlework. She taught art classes in her home for 20 years before retiring in the 1980s. Dorothy was an active member of the San Fernando Elks Lodge #1539 with her husband, Ted Milliner, a Past Exalted Ruler (deceased), and participated in various programs, events, and activities of the ladies auxiliary group, the Emblem Club #37. Dorothy designed event posters, club jackets, and Exalted Ruler pins for her and Ted. She met her husband, Ted, through her brother Jerry Blalock (deceased) and married six months later. She lived in Germany while Ted was serving in the army and enjoyed traveling throughout Europe. They were married for 61 years and Dorothy designed (and Ted built) the house they lived in for the majority of their married life. Dorothy loved animals and had many pets including a variety of dogs and cats (and an occasional rabbit). She was an exceptional cook and enjoyed dancing, crossword puzzles, reading, dry martinis with olives (especially the ones her daughter, Dianne made for her), and being with her wonderful friends and family. She is survived by her twin daughters, Dianne Teson (husband Darrell) of Mission Hills, California and JoAnne Overman (husband Warren) of Leland, North Carolina and two loving grandchildren, Lindsey Teson and Garrett Teson. A gift may be made in memory of Dorothy to the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), School of Arts, 24700 McBean Parkway, Valencia, CA 91355, Tel: 661-222-2745 or visit their website at calarts.edu and click on Support.
