Dorothy Mildred Stone Obituary
Dorothy Stone passed away peacefully at Glendale Adventist Medical Hospital. She was a longtime resident of Glendale. She was very active in the many events within her community. She stayed active in the town hall meetings to ensure any changes made were good for the entire community. Dorothy was married to Sal Jiron until his passing three years ago. Sal was her true love. She is now in heaven with Sal, her mother, Ada Rose and three siblings, Patricia, Joyce and William. She is survived by: Robert, Elizabeth, Gloria and Charles. Dorothy known as "Dottie" was born in Shanghai, China, along with her mother, Ada, father, George and her siblings, Patricia, Joyce, Robert and Elizabeth. They were forced to leave China in 1941 when the war broke out. They ended up in Manila, Philippines, as that was a possession of the United States. Soon after the Japanese took over the Philippines and the Rose family became prisoners of war in 1942. Dorothy's mother was pregnant with another sibling, Gloria, who was born in the prison camp on March 24, 1942. The family was imprisoned until 1945 when the American forces defeated the Japanese. Dorothy was only 14 years old. The entire Rose family was brought to Los Angeles, California, with thousands of other POW's. After many years of following the rules of becoming a citizen the Rose family became citizens of the United States. Dorothy loved cooking, dancing and traveling. There will be a private memorial in January.
