Dorothy P. Gosden Obituary
August 16, 1928 - August 18, 2015 Dorothy passed away peacefully on August 18th, just after her 87th birthday. She was born in Newark, NJ in 1928, the daughter of Dorothy and Curtis Paxton. She attended Pompton Lakes High School and graduated from Boston University with a degree in Physical Therapy. She practiced at Hines General in Chicago, in Durango, CO and at Cabot Kaiser in Santa Monica, where she met her future husband, Freeman Gosden Jr. In 1955, Dorothy and Freeman married and would have celebrated their 60th anniversary this November. They raised two daughters, Lee Curtis of Santa Monica and Jill Elizabeth, now Jill Pollock, of Chicago. When her children went off to college she went to work for Williams-Sonoma in Beverly Hills where she quickly rose to store manager, later becoming a regional manager and opening several new stores throughout the country. Dorothy was active in the PTA at Bonner School, John Thomas Dye, Marlborough School, and Palisades High School. Dorothy and her husband traveled throughout the world. In later years, they divided their time between Sun Valley, La Quinta, Yosemite and Santa Barbara. Together they enjoyed bicycle riding, paddle tennis and bridge and were active members of the Beach Club, in Santa Monica. She is survived by her husband, their two daughters, and two grandchildren: Katherine a senior at Brown University and Henry a second year student at the University of Virginia. Everybody who knew her loved her, especially her cooking at her popular sit down dinners. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, AA members please support your local office. All others, please send donations to Planned Parenthood in Dorothy's honor.
