Dorothy Pierson Kerig Obituary
October 10, 1927 - November 2, 2016 Dorothy Pierson Kerig passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on November 2, 2016 at age 89. She is survived by her brother, William Pierson; her children Janet Callahan, Dale Parent, Philip Kerig, and Patricia Kerig; her partner of 43 years, William O. Hendricks; her grandchildren Colin, Evan, and Janiel; and her cousin Sallie Cauchon Holden. The younger child of Phyllis Corbusier and Millard Pierson, Dorothy was a 4th generation military child born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. While an undergraduate at U.C. Berkeley, she met and married the father of her children, Dwan V. Kerig, whose careers in the Army and academia took their family to Louisiana, Texas, Kentucky, Japan, Virginia, Massachusetts, Germany and California. Dorothy returned to school and finished her BA at San Diego State University, was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to gather her dissertation data in Mexico City, and completed her Ph.D. in History at UC Irvine. A published and honored scholar, she subsequently taught History for many years at UCI, Orange Coast and Saddleback Colleges. Dorothy was beloved by many for her bright mind and smile, especially her friends in the organizations in which she participated, including Alpha Chi Omega, the Sand Dollars, Patience Wright Chapter of the DAR (for which she served as Regent and Honorary Regent), and the Debussy Chapter of the Guilds of Segerstrom Center for the Arts. A memorial service is being planned by her family for January and all are welcome to celebrate her life and share memories at legacy.com and Facebook.
