Duane Uldrich Obituary
September 18, 1921 - September 28, 2016 Duane Uldrich of Whittier passed away September 28, 2016 while in hospice care in Fullerton, California. He was born September 18, 1921 in Mt. Zion, West Virginia, the oldest of ten children. Growing up on an Appalachian farm during the Great Depression instilled in him strong character traits of thrift, generosity and duty to family. He served in the US Army Corps of Engineers in WW II, saw combat action in North Africa, Italy, the south of France, Austria and Germany, and was discharged as a Master Sergeant after the war's end. Duane graduated from West Virginia University in 1949 and was a lifelong Mountaineer. He would occasionally, however, put on a Trojan hat when three of his children graduated from USC. Duane practiced for more than four decades as a CPA in Los Angeles. He was a big Dodgers fan, taking his children to games in the Coliseum in the days before Dodger Stadium was built. Duane was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen, and his second wife, Maureen. He is survived by their children: John Uldrich (Flerida), David Uldrich (Shirley), Jayne Marlow (David), Jim Horak, Katharyn Thompson (Michael), Lori Sullivan (John), and Val Davis. He is also survived by his sister Greta Tichnell and brothers Gale and Ray, and by an army of nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Interment will take place at Riverside National Cemetery on a date to be scheduled. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested in Duane's name to the West Virginia University Foundation Scholarship Fund, and/or to the University of Southern California General Scholarship Fund.
