E. John (Jack) Larsen Obituary
August 4, 1926 - May 4, 2016 Dr. E. John (Jack) Larsen peacefully passed to eternal life May 4, 2016. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen, sister, Cathy Gaunt, nieces, nephews, and generations of USC students. For over 50 years, Jack touched the lives of countless USC Accounting students (1956-2008). As Faculty Athletics Representative, he worked with Trojan student-athletes (1969-1986). As Faculty Advisor in support of Greek life, he served sororities Alpha Chi Omega (1983-2009) and Chi Omega (1968-1982). A Central High (Omaha, NE) Class of 1943 graduate, Jack entered the Navy in 1944, serving until after WWII. In the mid-1950s he joined the Naval Reserves, attaining the rank Lt. Commander. Under the GI Bill, Jack graduated from USC in 1954 and became a CPA in 1956, working for Big Eight firm Arthur Young, now Ernst & Young, from 1954-1963. The firm encouraged him to support the profession through teaching at USC. His love for teaching was born. Jack began teaching at USC full-time in 1963 while working on his MBA (1965) and his Doctorate in Business Administration (1967). He retired in 2008 as Professor Emeritus. Jack's enthusiastic teaching style emphasized ethical values and the importance of communication. Services take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, 5835 W. Slauson Avenue, Culver City, CA 90230. Visitation is Tuesday, May 17 from 3:00 to 8:00 pm.
