Edna Forester Burke Obituary
Beloved wife of Gene ("my dear"), cherished mother of Barb, and wonderful Nana to Stephanie, Edna passed away in August at age 83. Classically elegant, she had a warm smile, joyful laugh, kind heart, and appreciation for perfection. Edna was born in Mars Hill, N. Carolina, as the youngest of 10 children. She was graduated from UNC, Greensboro with a Bachelor of Science degree and followed that by earning her dietitian license. She moved to Los Angeles to work at the VA Hospital in West LA, where she met Gene, who was completing his residency there. After their precious son, Anthony, passed away at age 7 and being a dedicated stay-at-home mother, Edna returned to the workforce as a dietary consultant for area hospitals in Orange County. Always a superb cook, she followed that passion and started gourmet lessons at the Ma Cuisine School of the famed Ma Maison restaurant. From there, she worked with several legendary chefs and other epicurean luminaries on special projects, cooking demonstrations and menu development in the 1980s. Fond of travel and Crystal Cruises, she and Gene journeyed throughout many parts of the world. Later, they divided their time between Huntington Beach and having extended visits with their daughter's family in Seattle. Edna loved being a grandmother, and relished time spent with her granddaughter. She eventually moved to Seattle after Gene's passing. Sadly, she suffered from and was debilitated by Alzheimer's disease during her last several years. She is survived by her daughter, son-in-law Stuart, granddaughter, two sisters and many nieces and nephews. A private, graveside service was held at Forest Lawn Glendale.
