In Memoriam Condolences

October 3, 1930 - August 29, 2014 In Remembrance of our father who died one year ago, August 29, 2014. Our Dad, Ed, was taken too soon from his family. He gave us gifts of his love and acceptance, sense of wonder, curiosity, joy, jokes and laughter. Dad loved geology, NASA and astronomy, antiques, bugs, old photos and maps, airplanes, family history and animals. He and his wife, LaVerne loved to travel in the west and Mexico in their various RVs, all of which he would name. He always worked hard and he could examine, figure out and repair almost anything. Most of all he was a loving father and grandfather. We love you Dad and we know we will meet again. Born in Los Angeles on October 3, 1930 to Lillian Freeman Hancock and William Hartsfield Hancock, he was the youngest of three children. Dad's father was an inventor and together with his wife Lillian owned and ran a malt shop in Los Angeles. For many years Dad was a Los Angeles County Sheriff followed by years at the Veterans Administration. Ed is predeceased by his brother William John Hancock and sister Lily Elizabeth "Betty" Hawkins, Marianne Nichols, his wife of 17 years and is survived by his wife LaVerne, his children Marianna Smoot (John), Juanita Leonard and Brian Hancock, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
