Edward Hidalgo Obituary
March 1949 - August 2018 Edward Hidalgo, also known as Eddie to family and friends, passed away early Friday morning, with his brother Richard by his side, as it should've been. Growing up they were always together as altar boys, Boy Scouts and teammates, and as adults they were there for each other. Edward Hidalgo was born in Los Angeles, California, at the Japanese Hospital on First Street. He was the beloved son of Joe C. Hidalgo and Esther M. Hidalgo and oldest brother to Richard, Yolanda, and Lupe. He took the role of eldest brother very seriously, organizing hiking trips through the El Sereno Hills, making sure their safety was his top priority when walking them to the local pool or grocery shopping for their mother. Edward Hidalgo was part of the first graduating class of Our Lady of Guadalupe in 1963, where he went on to Salesian High School. At Salesian, in his sophomore year he received his letter in both track and field and football. He graduated in 1967 and immediately after joined his father's business, Hidalgo Electric. Both Eddie and Richard grew up learning the trade so it was second nature to them both. Shortly after Edward married and had his beautiful daughter Sheri Hidalgo. Unfortunately, like many young marriages, it ended after 8 years. After some time, Edward remarried and had three more wonderful children, Richard, Elizabeth, and Edward Jr. After many years at his father's business, Eddie went on to work for Cal State LA as the supervisor of the electrical department for the college. He retired in 2008 after 20-plus years of employment. Edward enjoyed his retirement with continuous camping trips, Las Vegas visits cruises to Alaska, and a fantastic cruise to the Mediterranean with his brother Richard and sister-in-law Melissa. Edward passed away due to complications of diabetes but put up an heroic fight for the past 2 months in the hospital! He is survived by his 4 children, Sheri, Richard, Elizabeth, and Edward Jr.; his brother Richard, sisters Yolanda and Lupe, and in-laws Melissa and Rudy. He is also leaving behind 8 beloved grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, as well as, his fiancée Cherylinn and her daughter Samantha. The memorial mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe (Rose Hills), the address is 4509 Mercury Ave., Los Angeles 90032. The mass will begin at 11 o'clock, reception to follow immediately at Luminarias Restaurant. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Salesian Scholarship Fund created under Edward Hidalgo's name, more info to follow.
