Edward J. Brennan Jr. Obituary
March 13, 1929 - January 14, 2017 Edward Joseph Brennan, Jr., died peacefully at his home in Oceanside, CA, on January 14, 2017, from heart related complications related to Alzheimer's disease. Edward was born on March 13, 1929, in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Edward J. and Margaret V. Brennan. The eldest of 7 children during the Great Depression, he learned the values of hard work and devotion to family. After high school, Edward enlisted in the US Army and was assigned to a special Army Signal Corps Development Laboratories unit. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and developed a lifelong interest in advanced and experimental technologies that would guide his future career. In 1950, Edward left the Army one week before the start of the Korean War. Anticipating his recall, he re-enlisted and went to Officer Candidate School. Now a 2nd Lieutenant, he was assigned to the 206th Field Artillery Battalion (43rd Infantry Division), headed to Munich, West Germany. Soon after arriving, Edward joined a group for an evening out at the Officer's Club, located in a beautiful building called the Haus der Kunst. His life changed that night, as he met Hildegard A. Busold, the love of his life and his wife until she preceded him in death in 2015. Edward left the military for good in 1953, brought his new bride home to the U.S., and entered the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. While pursuing his education, his family grew to include a son and daughter. After graduation, Edward accepted a job at Fidelity Bank in Bristol, PA, and the family moved to Levittown, PA. Intrigued by the evolving consumer credit card business, he proposed a new credit card banking service designed to serve both consumers and local retailers. After successfully launching the new service, Edward became the youngest officer at his bank and gained national recognition as a leader and innovator in the new field of credit card services. His career took off and he achieved high level positions at Trenton Trust Company (Trenton, NJ) and First Pennsylvania Bank (Philadelphia, PA). Edward was then offered the opportunity to lead a small, private credit bureau operation (Credit Data Corp.) that was attempting to automate and revolutionize the credit reporting industry. In 1969, as the new VP of CDC, he moved his family to southern California where CDC was acquired by TRW and renamed TRW Credit Data. Under Edward's leadership, the TRW credit report became the industry standard, and his eventful career with TRW involved many groundbreaking achievements and honors. Edward retired from TRW in 1987, and with Hildegard, moved to Oceanside, CA, where they traveled and enjoyed the company of family and friends for many years. Edward is survived by his son Michael (daughter-in-law Sandy) of Sleepy Hollow, IL, daughter Karin (son-in-law Dennis Randall) of Carlsbad, CA; his brother Joseph (sister-in-law Elaine) of Kingwood, TX, sister Margaret Brockway of Thorofare, NJ, sister Mary Grassi (brother-in-law Anthony) of Westville, NJ; grandchildren Steven Brennan of Palatine, IL, and Kristin Bartholomew of Carpentersville, IL, (and their families, including great-grandchildren Aubrey, Trenton, and Robert); his brother-in-law Willi Busold (sister-in-law Beate), his nephew Markus Busold (and his family); two step-grandchildren Michael Randall and Kimberly Brown (and her family); and a number of other relatives and lifelong friends. A joint memorial for Edward and Hildegard will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 1:00pm at Eternal Hills Mortuary Chapel, 1999 El Camino Real, Oceanside, CA 92054, followed by ashes interment at Eternal Hills Memorial Park. A reception will follow at the Eternal Hills Mortuary (Hospitality Suite). In lieu of flowers, please make donations to either St. Jude (www.StJude.org) or the (www.alz.org).
