Edwin Lee Koll Obituary
October 29, 1928 - December 12, 2016 Edwin Lee Koll, 88, died peacefully in Los Angeles, CA on December 12, 2016 after a brief illness. Born in Los Angeles on October 29, 1928, Ed was the devoted son of Edna Julia Grube Koll and Milton Lee Koll. He was a graduate of Los Angeles High School and attended Menlo College in Northern California. Ed was one of the pioneer home developer-builders in Los Angeles and Orange County and was the primary builder of custom homes up in the hills of Doheny Estates in the early 1960s. He is survived by his two daughters: Madelyn Koll Bailey and Martha Koll Kerstner; sons-in-law, Jim Bailey and Doug Kerstner; nine grandchildren: Christopher Kerstner, Laura Bailey Mossler (Scott), Katie Gulbranson (Corey), Charlie Bailey, Nicholas Kerstner (Lauren), Kiki Bailey, Daniel Bailey, William Bailey, and Amy Bailey; and three great-grandchildren: Jack & Ellie Gulbranson and Lucy Mossler. Ed had three loves in his life: his wife of 64 years Joann who passed in August of 2016, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and finally his boats. Next to his family Ed was happiest when he was on his boat Amazing Grace sitting on the mooring in Moonstone Cove on Catalina Island. He always had a big grin on his face as he watched and played with his family and their friends for over 46 summers in Catalina. Ed was a member of the Newport Harbor Yacht Club and a Staff Commodore at Lido Isle Yacht Club where he spent many summers working the race committee tower with his wife Joann running the Tuesday Nite Flight Races. A big man with a big heart, Ed always found time to sit and talk to all he met. He loved to tell stories of his experiences growing up in early LA and his days when he worked at his father's lumber mill The A.J. Koll Company in downtown LA. We love you Grampa and we miss you, but we are happy to know that you and Grammy are now together again in Heaven. Interment at Forest Lawn Mortuary, Glendale.
