Elaine I. Barchan Obituary
September 22, 1930 - November 3, 2015 Long-time Arcadia resident Elaine I. Barchan passed away on November 3, 2015 in Pasadena with her loving family by her side. Elaine was born in Philadelphia, PA and raised in Miami, FL. An honor graduate of Miami Senior High School, she then graduated from the University of Florida where she received two great things: an excellent education and a wonderful husband, the late Stanley S. Barchan, Jr., an IBM executive from Jacksonville, FL. Elaine and Stan lived a rich and full life, making their home over the course of their 52-year marriage in Jacksonville, FL; Briarcliff Manor, NY; Arcadia, CA; Tokyo, Japan; and Shanghai, China. At the University of Florida, Elaine was a charter member and VP of Delta Gamma sorority, the first woman to be elected to the Board of Student Publications, president of Mortar Board, and was named to the University of Florida Hall of Fame, the highest recognition given to student leaders at Florida. She also became a lifelong fan of Florida Gator sports. Elaine was an interior designer for many years and was a member of the permanent board of the Blind Children's Center; a docent of the original Pasadena Art Museum, the Museum of Science and the Pacific Asia Museum; president of the Pasadena Delta Gamma Alumnae Chapter; and member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Arcadia. Elaine and Stan traveled around the globe and enjoyed all the world had to offer. If she had anything to say, it was always "it's a wonderful world." She is survived by her two sons, Stanley S. (Skip) Barchan III of Newport Beach and Steven M. Barchan of Monrovia; daughter-in-law, Tricia Bertero of Newport Beach; her three grandchildren, Lane and Blaire Barchan of Covina and Morgan Barchan of Indianapolis, IN; and her former daughter-in-law, Michelle Robertson of Covina. A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 20, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 400 W. Duarte Road, Arcadia. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Stanley S. Barchan Jr. and Elaine I. Barchan Memorial Scholarship Fund at the University of Florida Warrington College of Business Administration, P.O. Box 14425, Gainesville, FL 32604-2425.
