Conlon, Eleanore Cammack King

Eleanore Cammack King Conlon, died peacefully in her Fort Bragg, CA home in the early morning of September 1, 2010 of lung cancer. Known to all as Cammie, she was five years old when she played "Bonnie Blue Butler", the headstrong daughter of Rhett Butler and Scarlett O'Hara in the epic film Gone With the Wind.
Born August 5, 1934 in Los Angeles, CA, she was the daughter of Eleanore King Kalmus, author of Glorify Yourself, Guide to Glamour and Mr. Technicolor an autobiographical account of Conlon's step-father, Herbert T. Kalmus, the Academy Award-winning inventor and president of Technicolor. Following her role as "Bonnie Blue" she did the voice of young "Faline" in Bambi, and then quit the movie business. She attended and graduated from Marymount High School in Los Angeles, CA. She was a graduate of the University Of Southern California with a BA in Communications where she was a leadership member of Kappa Alpha Theta, and later did graduate work in marketing at the University of California, San Francisco.
In Southern California, Cammie was the editor of California Magazine. She also was the Assistant Vice President, Director of Public Relations for Western Federal Savings and Loan, Public Relations Director for Joan Luther Public Relations, and Director of Development for Marymount High School.
She moved to Northern California in 1980 where she served as Marketing Manager and Assistant Vice President for the former California Federal Savings and Loan and Executive Director of Kelley House Museum in Mendocino. She retired after ten years as Marketing Coordinator for the Mendocino Coast Chamber of Commerce and worked part-time as Public Relations Representative for Little River Inn.
Cammie traveled the country making personal appearances and talking about Gone With The Wind. She delighted fans in dozens of cities throughout the country. Cammie once noted, "I've worked in public relations 45 years, been a wife and mom, and no matter what I did, my role in Gone With The Wind is what captures people's interest." She deadpans, "In other words, I peaked at age five." In 2009, she published Bonnie Blue Butler : A Gone With The Wind Memoir.
Cammie married twice, first to Walter Ned Pollock in 1957, who died in 1965, and to Michael William Conlon in 1971, and divorced in 1976.
She is survived by her two children, Matthew Ned Conlon and Katharine King Byrne, and her three grandchildren, Elaine, Michael, and Christopher. Her family, Theta sisters and many friends from every part of her life will miss her.
Memorial mass will be held on Sunday, September 19 at 1:00pm with visitation at 12:30pm at St. Anthony's in Mendocino, CA, and on September 22 at 10:30 with a visitation at 10:00am in Los Angeles, CA at St. Brendan's Church at 300 South Van Ness, Los Angeles, 90020. There will also be a special service to be held in Marietta, GA for her beloved "Windies" (time and date TBD).

American Cancer Society, Gloriana Opera Company, Fort Bragg, CA, or Mendocino Coast Hospital Foundation For Hospice.
Interment will be private.
