Eli Baker Obituary
November 20, 1920 - February 5, 2017 Eli Baker, RCAF hero of WWII, passed away quietly, quickly and peacefully on February 5, 2017 at his home in Fountainview. He was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Fanny (Hoffman) Baker and his sister, Anne. Born November 20, 1920 in Ottawa Canada, his sisters, Betty Kotzer and Malca Lebell, he, Lil and their children formed a very close family. His marriage is a story of a romance told and retold. Beloved, he is survived by his wife, Lillian (Greenblatt), their daughters, Susan (Lucien) Attal and Patricia (Valdimar) Bjarnason, their grandchildren Alon (Monique) Attal, Amy (Kirk) Attal, Avi (Sonya) Attal, Rachel (Alan) Martinez, and Miriam Bjarnason and three great-grandchildren. Eli served in the RCAF from 1939 when he was captured by the Gestapo after being shot down in Holland. He survived a year in Stalag Luft 3 as a prisoner of war (POW) until his release in May, 1945. At the end of June he came to California to meet his pen pal of five years. Their marriage lasted over 71 years. He will be remembered as a warm, respected and quiet man who retired as a stockbrocker in 1982. His pleasures were his family, sports and being a member of Wings over Wendy's.
