Emily Mazurek Obituary
Emily Lucia Parker Mazurek, Accountant for the Division of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, CA for more than 25 years passed away at her home in Pasadena July 7, 2018. She was 89 years old. She was born in Chicago, Illinois, September 23, 1928. Emily was the oldest of five children of Howard Lynn Parker and Virginia Adele Snyder Parker. Her siblings were Howard, Anne, Rudolph and David. Mrs. Mazurek lived in Chicago until 1953. She met Eugene Theodore Mazurek when they both worked at Stewart-Warner Manufacturing, a scientific instrument company. They married in May, 1952. They moved to South Pasadena, California in 1953 with their oldest daughter Adele (b. 1953). Mr. Mazurek, an Army medic who received the Silver Battle Star and was on the second landing at Normandy in World War II became a well known accountant and passed away in Pasadena July 29, 1989. Their other children that followed were Monica (b. 1954), Theresa (b. 1956), Constance (b. 1958) and then their son Robert (b. 1959). Upon her retirement at CalTech, she was lauded for her common sense style and her genuine care for the staff and students in the Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Division. Emily, knick-named Emmy Lou, was a master crafts artist known for her knitting, crochet and fiber arts. Mrs. Mazurek is survived by her brother David Laurence Parker and his wife Patricia Ann Flynn Parker; sister-in-law Camilla Joan Thomas Parker; daughter Adele Cecilia Mazurek Suslick and her son Benjamin Adam; daughter Monica Ann Mazurek Taghon and her husband Gary Lee Taghon, and their children Max Edward and Meredith Marie; daughter Theresa Lucia Mazurek; daughter Constance Marie Mazurek; and son Robert Eugene Mazurek and his wife Joy Blossom Mazurek and their two children Margaret Eos and Theodore Orion. A Visitation will be held: Thursday July 12, 2018 at 5pm to 8pm at Cabot and Sons, 27 Chestnut Street, Pasadena, CA 91103. The Funeral mass will be conducted at St. Andrews Catholic Church 311 N. Raymond Avenue, Pasadena, CA 91103, Friday July 13, 2018 at 12 noon. All friends and family are invited.
