Emmons Sebenius Obituary
November 12, 1927 - August 22, 2017 Emmons ("Em") Sebenius, 89, of San Marino, California, was born in Los Angeles, the third of five children of Dorothy and Carl Sebenius. He died after a courageous battle against bone cancer. Em grew up in Altadena attending the James Trailfinders School for Boys and helped establish the James San Jacinto Mountains Reserve, part of the University of California Natural Reserve System. In WWII, Em was in the Navy V-5 Air Corps at SMU in Dallas. He graduated from UC Berkeley in 1950. He was a member of the rugby team and DKE fraternity, and met Janet Prescott Kimble, whom he married in 1952. Em was an independent oil and gas operator in Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, and Indiana. He was a member of the Valley Hunt Club, Saint Edmund's Episcopal Church, San Marino and a former member of San Gabriel Country Club and La Grulla Gun Club in Baja California. Em leaves behind his beloved wife of 65 years, Janet; his brother, Carl Harald (Zeke) Sebenius of McLean, Virginia; his son, James K. (Jim) Sebenius (Nancy Buck) of Cambridge, Massachusetts; his daughter Kathryn (Katie) Sebenius of Georgetown, Texas; as well as five grandchildren: Bill Black, Betsy Prescott Wilson (Garrett Wilson), and Zander, Alyza and Isaac Sebenius. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers John and Wayland (Gus) Sebenius, and sister Susan Sebenius Griffiths. Donations may be sent to Saint Edmund's Episcopal Church, P.O.
