Ephraim Baran Obituary
December 9, 1921 - June 7, 2017 Ephraim Baran passed away at age 95 on June 7 at his home in Santa Monica. Ephraim lived a long, fulfilled life that included a highly successful career in architecture, a lifelong love affair with his wife Annette, loving relationships with his family, and a large extended community of friends around the world. Born in Sacramento, Ephraim studied architecture at UC Berkeley and co-founded the thriving firm of Rochlin and Baran (now RBB), specializing in medical architecture. After retirement, he created the Architectural Office Visit Program, working with inner city youth. Ephraim was an avid adventurer: he scaled the mountains in Tibet, ran with the bulls in Pamplona and explored the savannahs in Africa. A backpacker, classical guitarist, and opera aficionado, he was known for his acerbic wit, pithy one-liners and memorable facial expressions. He is survived by his children, Joshua, David and Naomi, and grandchildren Mark and Ariel.
