Eric A. Skipsey Obituary
July 14, 1919 - January 29, 2018 Eric Skipsey, 98, of Montecito Santa Barbara (SB) passed away peacefully on January 29, 2018. He was born in Canterbury, England in 1919 to Richard Stuart Skipsey and Marthe Marie Skipsey. He was preceded in death by his beloved Frances Koshland Hawkes Skipsey. Early in life, he was an accomplished figure skater, taking silver in the British figure skating championships. During WWII he was a decorated war hero, and was wounded during the Dunkirk evacuation. He rose to a captain's commision in the elite Black Watch Regiment serving on General Montgomery's Intelligence staff. In 1946, he emigrated to Canada and became a professional photographer. He accompanied Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip during their first official tour in Canada. In 1956 he moved to Los Angeles where he operated a successful portrait photography studio. Clients included: Elizabeth Taylor, Ava Gardner, Marilyn Monroe, Jimmy Stewart, Clark Gable, Igor Stravinski, Gary Cooper, Ronald Reagan and many more. His portfolio has been donated to the S.B. Museum of Art. His honors include a Fellowship from the Royal Photographic Society and a Master of Photography from the Professional Photographers of America and was elected president of the professional photographers association twice.
