June 26, 1946 - July 2, 2016 Erland Gregory Anderson, poet, translator, teacher, died Saturday July 2nd in Camarillo, CA. Born in Los Angeles, Dr. Anderson received his B.A. from UCLA, his Master's and Ph.D at the University of Washington. Through a Woodrow Wilson Dissertation Fellowship, he researched Romantic Poetry in the UK for his book "Harmonious Madness." He taught in Spain, France, Hawaii, the Pacific Northwest and California. He was a Fulbright Scholar in Sevilla, Spain and Besancon, France. His poetry volumes include "A Hollow of Waves," and "Searching for Modesto" as well as numerous translations from Spanish, French, and Swedish. We mourn the passing of a true "citizen of the world," a gentle beautiful soul. In a line from one of his favorite poems: "Let us grieve not rather find/strength in what remains behind." He is survived by his wife, Susan, his son, Ben, and his sister, Althea and was predeceased by his parents, Dr. E.R.V Anderson and Roby Anderson. A memorial will be scheduled for a future date.
