Evelyn Ilene Waterman Obituary
October 30, 1925 - June 25, 2015 We lost the most amazing mother and Bubba on June 25, 2015. Evie was born in Pittsburgh to Nathan and Esther Gehrman. Her father adoringly called his little girl, Chaikala. She grew up with two brothers, Sam and Morris. In 1935, the family moved to Southern California and settled in Boyle Heights. In 1947 she met the love of her life, Seymour Waterman, in downtown Los Angeles. They married and eventually moved to Burbank and then Encino while raising their three children: Cathy, Nancy and Eric. Evie was very involved with and committed to her community and family. She was curious about people and life and had many interests and passions, some of which were: playing beach volleyball on the warm Venice sand as a young woman, singing in the Burbank temple choir, teaching yoga, supporting the organic movement while it was very much a fringe movement. She earned her Ph.D. in psychology and was well respected in her private practice as a psychotherapist. Evie was committed to her work with a number of foster children as a court appointed special advocate (CASA). She headed the San Fernando Valley division of AIPAC with great dedication and led many therapy groups at the University of Judaism. She loved music and her beautiful voice would fill our lives. Above all Evie's greatest joy was her family. She adored her full life, always living for the moment, often remarking "yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift". Bubba was our gift. She is survived by her three children and seven adoring grandchildren: Adam, Nick, Erin, Claire, Coco, Seneca and Asher who all hope to continue Bubba's zest for life and her love of hot fudge sundaes. Oychet!
