Evelyn M. Hitchcock Obituary
May 12, 1940 - January 20, 2016 Resident of Santa Monica. Evelyn M. Hitchcock passed away on Wednesday, January 20th in Montrose, California; she was 75. Evelyn was born and raised in Washington, Iowa. After graduating from Washington High School, she then attended Iowa State Teachers College. After her freshman year, she worked at the local paper in Iowa City where she met her husband, Frederick "Fritz" Hitchcock. They were married in 1960. They immediately moved to Southern California and had two children together, then eventually divorced. Evelyn received her B.A. in Art and M.A. in Architectural History both from Cal State University, Long Beach. Evelyn worked at Cal State University, Dominguez Hills for over 20 years. Her first career was as the Art Gallery Director, before making the decision to move into Administration. She was a respected authority on California Ranch Homes/Adobes, active in the architectural and art scene in Santa Monica, presided on the Landmarks Commission for the city and volunteered at St. Johns Hospital. She was a parishioner at St. Monica's Catholic Church, where she also volunteered. Evelyn's passions were traveling, visiting different museums, and spending time with grandchildren. Evelyn is lovingly survived by her daughter, Beth Hakes of La Crescenta, California and her son, Frederick "Ted" Hitchcock of Santa Monica, California. Son-in law: Howard Hakes. Her grandchildren: Howie and Elizabeth Hakes, Katherine and Freddy Hitchcock. Her brothers: Carl Richard "CR" Mc Cutchen and Charles Mc Cutchen.
