Fradene Ruth Pollack Obituary
June 4, 1918 - March 15, 2016 Fradene Pollack, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, died at her home in Van Nuys, California on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at the age of 97. Fradene is survived by her five children: Michael, Marte, Richard, Jeffrey and Lisa. She would proudly speak of their accomplishments, as well as those of her seven "genius" grandchildren, with everyone. Born in 1918 in Wichita, Kansas, Fradene graduated from the University of Wichita with a degree in English. Soon afterward, she married Ira Jay Kaplan, the father of her five children, who died in 1955. As time went by, she met and fell in love with the charismatic Morris J. Pollack, who brought joy and adventure to their 46 years together and who became the loving dad of her five children. Art, music, theater, bridge, traveling, and politics were some of her many interests. Her inquisitive mind led to a life-long passion for history and her interest in world affairs. She also loved the written word, being an avid reader and even penning her memoir in her 80's. Philanthropy was vital to Fradene. Among her many contributions to causes and charities, she held a special place in her heart for the Junior Blind of America, establishing the Fradene & Morris J. Pollack Music Room at Junior Blind's Los Angeles Campus. Fradene made a difference in the lives of many. Her smile, laughter, curiosity, tenacity, courage, style and love of life will be missed by everyone who knew her. Donations in her memory can be made to the Fradene & Morris J. Pollack Music Room, Junior Blind of America, 5300 Angeles Vista Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90043.
