Frances Fabe Spielberg Obituary
May 2, 1925 - February 1, 2016 Frances Fabe Spielberg ("Peachy" to all who knew her) died Monday, February 1st, 2016, at her home in Pacific Palisades. Born May 2nd, 1925, in Cincinnati, OH, she attended Walnut Hills High School, earned a bachelor's degree from Northwestern University and a master's degree from the University of Chicago. She moved to New York City in the late 1940s to work in advertising, returning to Cincinnati in 1950. She then married Irvin N. (Buddy) Spielberg and worked at Wright Field in Dayton, OH, for several years. By 1956 she and Buddy had two children, and they moved to Southern California for Buddy's work. Their third child was born in Los Angeles. In the early 1960s, Peachy went back to school for her teaching credential, hoping to teach social studies. The need for math teachers at the time induced her to change fields, and she taught algebra and geometry for 22 years at Hoover High School in Glendale, CA. After retirement, she and Buddy took up golf, hiked with the Sierra Club, read extensively, went to concerts and plays, and travelled the world. She outlived Buddy by almost one year, and is survived by her children Ginny Gibbs (Michael), Jack Spielberg (Sarah Seaver), and Fred Spielberg (Guadalupe Verdejo), and grandchildren Jonathan (Emily), Lydia, Lindsay, Natty, and Victor. Peachy was a tremendously strong woman--vibrant, witty, ironic and loyal, with a deep sense of empathy for the underdog. Donations in her memory can be made to the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (350 S. Figueroa St., Ste. 183, LA, CA 90071) and Planned Parenthood of Los Angeles (400 W. 30th St., LA, CA 90007).
