Francis Alex Stang Obituary
October 31, 1925 - December 1, 2016 Francis Alex "Frank" Stang passed away on December 1, 2016 in Newport Beach, CA, with his two sons (Peter and Thomas) at his side. Frank was born in Credit River, Minnesota, on the family farm, on October 31, 1925 to Michael and Elizabeth Klehr Stang. He was the fifth of seven children. Upon his father's death in 1929, following a farming accident, the family moved to Jordan, Minnesota. He attended St. John the Baptist Catholic grade school in Jordan, and graduated from Jordan High School in 1945, where he played varsity football (quarterback), basketball (guard), and baseball (first base). While in Minnesota, he worked in agriculture, painted water towers, and worked at the Jordan brewery. He attended St. Thomas College in St. Paul, Minnesota, and eventually moved to San Diego in 1949, where he worked days at Bank of America and was a "pin setter" at night at the North Park Bowling Alley. In 1951, while living in Los Angeles, he met his future wife, Ellen A. McQuade, an elementary school teacher from New York, in Yosemite Valley. They were married in New York on August 20, 1955, and moved to Long Beach, California. In 1958, they moved to the new community of La Mirada, California, near the Los Angeles-Orange County line. Frank and Ellen had two sons, Peter (1956) and Thomas (1962). Frank was a licensed California real estate broker. He sold and managed real property throughout Los Angeles County from the late 1950's until he retired in 2011. He and Ellen were parishioners at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church in La Mirada since 1958. He was predeceased by his father Michael (1929), his mother Elizabeth (1955), his wife Ellen (2002), and his siblings Roman (1981), Viola (2014) and Willie (2008). He is survived by his sister Dolores, and brothers Chris and LeRoy (nickname Doc) and Doc's wife Genevieve. He is also survived by his sons Peter (wife Patricia, and daughters Eleni and Mary), and Thomas (wife Lauri). Viewing and Rosary on December 8, 2016 in Costa Mesa, CA, from 4 to 7 pm at Harbor Lawn Mortuary, 1625 Gisler Ave., Costa Mesa. Funeral Mass on December 9, 2016, in La Mirada, CA, at 10 am, at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church. Burial at St. Johns Cemetery, Goshen, NY, December 12, 2016. In lieu of donations, the family requests that those that knew Frank tell a friend or family member a joke. Dad will be listening for the punch-line.
