Francis Earle Gaskins III Obituary
October 2, 1943 - February 22, 2016 It is with profound sorrow that his wife, Susan, his daughter, Courtney, and his brother, Peter, announce the passing of Francis Earle Gaskins, III. He was reared in Salem, Oregon, and moved to Los Angeles in 1967. He held an A.B. in Economics from Princeton University and an MBA in Finance from Harvard Business School. He engaged in numerous business ventures and was a cofounder of both a computer based training company and a project management software company. Most currently he was founder, president and editor of IPO Desktop.com, which was named as one of "Forbes' Best IPO Sites". On Seeking Alpha he was the top IPO Analysis Opinion Leader as well as the leading IPO content contributor. He was frequently quoted by AP, Reuters, the Wall Street Journal, Dow Jones Newswires, Smart Money, Investor's Business Daily, USA TODAY and the LA Times. He made numerous TV appearances over the years as a talking head on media outlets such as CNBC, Bloomberg, the Street.com, and in the international arena. Francis played the violin beautifully; his tone was sweet and tender. For several years he played first violin in the Santa Monica Symphony Orchestra and then became Concert Master of the Palisades Symphony. He was also exceptionally versatile; he played the Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto at UCLA's Chinese New Year celebration, he played Irish gigs and reels and, for several years, he was the fiddler in a pirate band and Cajun-Zydeco band. Always active and energetic, hiking, biking, snorkeling, kayaking, running, windsurfing, quite the tri-athlete, he was also certified as an instructor for turbo-kickboxing. This kind, fun-loving, generous man with his sweetly goofy take on life, will be deeply missed by his family, friends and colleagues. Services will be held on Sunday, April 3, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., at The Parish of Saint Matthew, 1031 Bienveneda Avenue, Pacific Palisades, CA 90272. Donations to the are greatly appreciated.
