September 5, 1924 - January 4, 2016 Frank Armitage of Paso Robles passed away peacefully on January 4, 2016 Born in Geelong, Australia. Frank was an artist, muralist, medical illustrator, practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncturist, global trotter, volunteer and Good Samaritan. In 1952 at the Walt Disney Studios, he worked on layouts and backgrounds for feature films such as "Peter Pan", "Sleeping Beauty", "Mary Poppins", and "The Jungle Book". Disneyland - Storybook Land. In 1966, Frank created the production illustrations for "Fantastic Voyage". In 1971, Frank went to Walt Disney Imagineering his artwork paved the way for The Wonderful Life Pavilion at Epcot. He painted over 5500 square feet of murals for Safari Fare Restaurant in Disney's Animal Kingdom, several murals in Tokyo Disney Sea. In 2006, Frank donated much of his medical art collection to the University at Chicago (UIC) that same year, the organization's Biomedical Visualization Graduate program (BVIS) established The Frank Armitage Lecture, honoring his legacy in the field of medical illustration. Frank lived in Paso Robles with his wife, Karen Connolly Armitage. Frank is survived by his former wife, Patty Ray and their three children, Nicole Armitage, Michelle Armitage and Wes Armitage, his four grandchildren, Natalie Doolittle, William Doolittle, Kenyan Armitage and Trent Armitage, a sister Margaret Parfett in Australia. Frank had a wonderful long well lived life. He will be missed dearly by his family, friends and colleagues.
