Frank J. Grimes Obituary
April 9, 1936 - February 5, 2017 Frank Grimes, 80, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on February 5th, 2017 in Santa Monica. Frank was born in Brighton, MA and relocated to California with his mother and sisters. He met and married the love of his life, Frances Hurley of Norwood, MA in April, 1963. After serving in the Army during the Korean War, Frank joined the Los Angeles Police Department, where he achieved many milestones over his 33-year tenure, including being the youngest officer ever promoted to Sergeant in the esteemed Metro division. Frank dedicated his life to upholding justice. Committed to police organizations and his fellow officers, he was elected to and served on the Los Angeles Police Protective League for 12 years and was instrumental in the creation of both the Southern California Alliance of Law Enforcement and the California Coalition of Law Enforcement Associations. In 1998 he was appointed by the Governor to serve as the Director of Criminal Justice Planning for the State of California. Frank will be remembered for his genuine compassion, his fierce loyalty and dedication and his Irish charm and wit that filled any room with laughter. He adored his family, sitting on the deck of his Malibu home, was a true Celtics fan (who could never cheer for the Lakers) and danced spontaneously and enthusiastically to the Rat Pack music he loved. Frank is survived by his wife, Frances Grimes, his children: Karen Tinley (Rob), Patrick Grimes, Kerry Grimes and Annie Conte (Tony), and his grandchildren: Jason, Dylan, and Jessica Tinley and Delaney Conte. Funeral services will be held at noon on the 24th of February at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Rowland Heights to be followed by a lunch reception at Cedar Creek Restaurant in Brea. A dedication will take place at Our Lady of Malibu Church on February 26th at 11am followed by a Celebration of Life at the Grimes' home.
