Fumi Hattori Obituary
December 9, 1921 - April 20, 2016 Fumi Hattori, age 94, died on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at Brookdale Assisted Living, a caring and loving senior community in Anaheim Hills, CA. She was born in Tacoma, WA, to Satoru and Chiyoko Sato, where she was one of four children. As were many citizens of Japanese descent during the war, Fumi was interned in Tule Lake, CA, prior to marrying her husband, Willie Hattori, who served in the United States Army. After moving to Torrance, California, Fumi obtained a position as an administrative assistant for the Los Angeles Board of Education, earning various distinguished awards for service, and eventually retiring. Always with a passion for learning, she attended California State University, Dominguez Hills, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Gerontology, at the age of 68, graduating with honors. She was also a member of Centenary Methodist Church in Los Angeles. Fumi was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Willie, and brother, Hide. Surviving brothers include Masa and Tosh Sato. Fumi's children include Marge Pitman (Gordon), Orange, CA, William Hattori (Muriel), Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, and James Hattori, San Francisco, CA. There will be a private service for family. Memorials may be made in Fumi's name to Centenary Methodist Church or your local Humane Society.
