Galen John Barnett Obituary
April 22, 1925 - January 31, 2018 Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather left this mortal existence surrounded by his family January 31, 2018 after a difficult battle with the complications associated with dementia. Galen was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on April 22, 1925 and eventually settled with his wife Eleanor in Southern California. The couple moved to Salt Lake City to be near their daughter during the final four years of his life. Galen and Eleanor served in the United States Army on a hospital ship deployed in the Atlantic Theater during World War II from 1941 to 1944. Following the end of the war Galen, always an extremely hardworking man, became a general contractor in the Los Angeles area where he was extremely successful. He prided himself on his work ethic but also found time to unselfishly devote 50 years of his time to the Whittier Masonic Lodge, and was inducted into Al Malaikah Shriners of Los Angeles in May of 1970. Galen was predeceased by his son Galen Kurt Barnett and is survived by his loving wife Eleanor, his sister (Donna Kopitke), a daughter Karen Feinauer (Richard), his four grandsons, Jonathan (Diane), Chad (Heather), Benjamin (Marianne) and Joshua, along with thirteen great-grandchildren. A memorial celebration of Galen's life was held at his daughter's home on Sunday, February 4, 2018. The funeral and interment will be held in Whittier, California, at Rose Hills Memorial Park on Friday, February 9, 2018 at 3:00 pm with viewing from 10 am to 12:00 noon.
