Garen Der Hacopian Obituary
May 6, 1959 - April 29, 2017 Dr. Garen Der Hacopian was born on May 6th, 1959 in Tehran, Iran, and was raised by his mother, Mary, and father, Simon, along with his two brothers Nick and Eric in a loving and nurturing family environment. Garen grew up surrounded by cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents which could turn any gathering into a party, and in which the only two unpardonable sins were not having a sense of humor or displaying any notions of self-importance. From his earliest days, Garen was a brilliant student with a photographic memory, who rarely took notes in class and did not need to study hard to earn the highest grades. In 1977, Garen moved to the United States to join his brother and the rest of his family. Garen went on to study medicine at USC and went on to practice medicine until his last conscious moments. Garen left us on April 29th, surrounded in his last hours by a near army of family and friends. In our family we do not believe in making our brother more in death than he was in life, we just want him remembered as a good and decent man, who saw suffering and always tried to heal it, and one who in his humility never once trumped his million acts of kindness and decency to the world. Garen is survived by his brothers Nick and Eric, sisters-in-law Sara and Christina and nephews Alex, Allen, Luka Rafi and Alik, whom Garen adored and who loved him greatly.
