Garry James Griffiths Obituary
October 25, 1943 - October 14, 2017 Garry J. Griffiths, age 73, died at his home in Fontana, California, after a long and valiantly fought battle with cancer. Born in Sydney, Australia, he was predeceased by his father, Sydney George Griffiths and his mother, Nancy Ellen (Cox) Griffiths. Garry was married on January 26, 1974 to Marie Ann Blauvelt in Easthampton, Massachusetts. Garry received his education at Christian Brothers, Manly. He was a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and a certified public accountant. A California resident for over forty years, he worked for the majority of his career in the health industry, retiring in 2007 from the finance department at The City of Hope hospital in Duarte. A sports enthusiast, Garry remained a loyal Manly Sea Eagles supporter to the end of his life. A good rugby player in his youth, he continued to play tennis and golf until prevented by illness. Garry always had a soft spot in his heart for animals, and, on more than one occasion, returned home from the golf course with a stray. Garry is survived by his wife, Marie; sister, Christine and her husband, Rod Stoffels; sister-in-law, Janet and her husband, Joe Barako; nephews, Simon, Jeremy and Alexander Bos; nieces, Ann Marie Scherpa and Michele Cummings and several cousins including Marlene and Lorraine Hills and John Brown. No service is scheduled. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Sydney, Australia. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Fund at www.cancer.org.
