Gayle G. Miller Obituary
March 22, 1934 - July 13, 2015 Gayle Grant Miller, a distinguished business and civic leader, passed away after a very private and courageous battle against melanoma cancer. Her creative talents, business acumen, insightful mentoring and steadfast faith left a lasting impact on all who met her. Gayle was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Earnest Roy Grant and Jane Beatson. Her illustrious career began as department store buyer and culminated as the President of Ann Klein II, a designer sportswear manufacturing company that under her direction was a fashion industry leader. After retiring from Ann Klein II, Gayle served in executive positions and on the boards of numerous nonprofit and for profit organizations. She held key positions in the Go Alongside Foundation, Families in Schools, Enough is Enough, and KUBE-iT Inc. For the last 22 years, Gayle's primary focus and passion was her volunteer work with school reform groups. She and several other board members of the Los Angeles Annenberg Metropolitan Project and the Learn School reform group formed Alliance for College-Ready Public Schools, the largest charter school network in Los Angeles. Gayle fiercely supported Alliance's education of 11,000 low income students with 95% of graduates matriculating to college. Her greatest joy was interacting with and encouraging Alliance staff, parents, and especially the students. The Alliance will host a public celebration of Gayle's life on August 22, 2015 from 3 to 5 P.M. at the Alliance Tennenbaum Family Technology High School on Sotomayor School Complex, 2050 San Fernando Road, Los Angeles, CA 90065. Donations in Gayle's honor may be made to the Alliance for College-Ready Public Schools / Gayle Miller Scholarship Fund, 601 South Figueroa Street, 4th floor, Los Angeles, CA 90017.
