Georg Friedrich Essl IV Obituary
May 20, 1955 - March 18, 2016 Georg Friedrich Essl IV, 60, went peacefully with The Lord early Friday morning, March 18th, at his residence in Playa Del Rey, California. Born in 1955 in Villach, Austria, Georg was educated in both Klagenfurt and Graz, Austria. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Rosemarie Jost Essl, and his daughter, Michaela Essl. In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by his father, Georg Essl III, his mother Annemarie Stifter Essl, brother Manfred, sister Heidi, stepmother Renate, and half siblings Christian and Andrea Essl, as well as his son-in-law, Gustave Greely, and countless other friends and relatives. Georg was passionate about computers, loved new challenges, and had a real gift for problem-solving. He was admired by colleagues not only for his talents in software engineering and for his leadership skills, but also for his easygoing demeanor and friendliness. In addition to the work he did at his job, he also acted as a "Computer Doctor" for his church and for numerous friends. Georg held a degree in business, and for many years was president of Austrotex, a fine Austrian linen company, before eventually joining the team at William O'Neil IBD, where he worked for the past 19 years. Exactly one year ago, Georg was diagnosed with the aggressive terminal brain cancer known as Glioblastoma multiforme. He was treated at St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica, CA by a superb team of neurologists, under the guidance of Dr. Daniel F. Kelly. They did all that they could; however, the Lord had other plans for Georg, and we are thankful that he can celebrate Easter with Our Lord without any pain. We miss him terribly. Services will be held on Friday, April 8th, at 10 AM at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1847 14th Street, Santa Monica, CA 90404. A luncheon reception will follow at 12 noon at Le Meridien Hotel, 530 Pico Blvd, Santa Monica, CA 90405. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Brain Cancer Research Fund would be much appreciated.
