George Jozef Comfort Sr. In Memoriam
March 12, 1913 - February 8, 2015 Born in Natchez, Mississippi, George J. Comfort, Sr. was the oldest of four children born to George and Frances Comfort. All of his siblings preceded him in death, and George was called away to glory just a few weeks shy of his 102nd birthday. He worked in management for the United States Postal Service for over 36 years, but also followed his passion for music and entertainment. Trained as a Baritone singer, George gave voice lessons and performed on radio and television, as well as acting in the theatrical and film Gershwin classic of Porgy and Bess. A versatile actor and singer, he appeared in the legendary film, The Ballad of Jesse James. He continued to gain theatrical roles throughout his life and worked well into his seventies. A vibrant and honorable man, George Comfort was a true example of faith and God's love to his entire family. He was married to his loving wife, Marie, for over 62 years before she passed on July 3, 1996; and they raised six children. He lost his oldest son, George Comfort, Jr. in 2012, as well as his daughter-in-law, Bernedette Comfort in 2011. He is survived by his daughters, Daunita Balthazar, Baunita Moore, Joyce Stapler (Morris) and Stephanie Stapleton (Eddie), as well as his son, Jarrett Comfort (Linda). He also leaves behind his nephew, Frank Comfort (Vicki) and over 60 grandchildren and great grandchildren. May his soul continue to rest in peace, as he is missed every day and will forever be in our hearts. Happy Birthday, Dad. We all love you.
