George Kenneth Bernharth Obituary
George Kenneth Bernharth died peacefully in his sleep on January 18th, 2016, at Cedar Sinai Hospital. He was aged 93. George is survived by his beautiful, loving wife of 64 years, Kitty, and his sister Eva. George was born in Transylvania and was educated at the University of Technology in Budapest. George and Kitty married in 1952. A few years later, they escaped Hungary and migrated to the United States. They became US citizens in 1962. No one could have been prouder of being an American citizen than George. George was a true raconteur - few could tell a story better. He had a treasure trove of anecdotes about all the faraway places he had visited. George and Kitty were true globetrotters - they cruised more than 55 times, sailed on old-fashioned sailboats and visited some of the most exotic places on earth - from Papua New Guinea to the Amazon. George will be remembered fondly for his quick wit and his wicked sense of humor. He could entertain a crowd for hours with his jokes and stories. Like his father and grandfather, George was a civil engineer. More than 40 years ago, George acquired Seaboard Engineering and turned it into one of California's leading engineering companies. It was impossible to take a drive with George without him pointing out a shopping center or a large building he had worked on. His was a great, long life well lived. He will be missed dearly by his family, friends and colleagues. George will be cremated in a private ceremony.
