George Smith Ackerman Obituary
April 30, 1920 - April 21, 2017 George Smith Ackerman, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, April 21, 2017. He was born on April 30, 1920, in Plainfield, New Jersey. Raised in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, George was educated at the Moravian Preparatory, The Hill School and The Hun School in Princeton, New Jersey. He graduated from Babson College in 1942, becoming a Naval Cadet in July of that same year. As a 2nd Lieutenant and Naval Aviator in the United States Marine Corps, he participated in the Gilbert and Marshall Islands and Kwajelein Atoll occupations in 1943. George was honorably discharged as Captain in February of 1946. For the next 10 years, George was employed by the MCA and the William Morris Agency in Beverly Hills, California. He retired as Vice President of Sales from Vicro Mfg. Corporation at the tender age of 70. As a member of St. Peter's By The Sea Presbyterian Church, George served as an elder and deacon. He dedicated his life to serve the National Church, the synod of Southern California and Hawaii and the Presbytery of the Pacific. As an advocate of biblical stewardship, he truly believed: "To Whom Much Is Given, Much Shall Be Required." George is survived by his loving wife Patricia, his youngest sister Sally, his children George Jr. (Lucy), Chris (Janie), and Allison (Todd), 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. A private memorial service will be held for the family later this summer.
