George V. Kriste Obituary
May 19, 1947 - July 8, 2017 George Vidin Kriste, an accomplished executive originally from Glendale, California, died unexpectedly July 8th doing what he enjoyed most: hiking with his family near their home. An attorney, chief executive and owner of media properties, he had resided in Anchorage, Alaska, as well as Malibu and, most recently, Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. Born May 19th, 1947, George was the second of three children to Vide Kriste and Lois (Campana) Kriste. He is survived by his sister Terese Melcher, and his brother William (Patti) Kriste. For all his professional success, George often said his proudest accomplishment was his family. His wife of 45 years Raimie (Beauclair), his daughter Jennifer Connolly and her husband Brendan (who became George's great friend), as well as his three granddaughters (Quinn, Taylor and Drew) were his source of pure joy. Growing up, George was president of the student body and excelled on the Glendale High School basketball team. He was recruited by several colleges and chose to attend the University of San Francisco, where he was its starting center. After graduating from UCLA Law School in 1972, George began his career with Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO) where he was noted both for his skills as a negotiator and his leadership in two national public relations campaigns. George was also a senior executive for Cook Inlet Region, Inc. (CIRI), an Alaska Native organization in Anchorage. He directed many of CIRI's business, oil, mineral and land activities and led the company's entrée into several broadcast media investments. Subsequently he and partners formed their own successful media company which went on to own broadcast television (KCBA Monterey), radio stations, and multi-use tower properties in Arizona, California, New York, Oregon and Washington. In addition to his immediate family, George will be missed immensely by eight adoring nieces and nephews whom he showered with affection and support throughout their lives. His entire family will forever miss his infectious, larger-than-life presence. Memorial gifts can be made to the Community Foundation for Monterey County for the George V. Kriste Scholarship Fund.  Checks can be sent to the Community Foundation for Monterey County, 2354 Garden Road, Monterey, CA 93940. A memorial to celebrate George's life will be held at 1 pm, Sunday, September 3rd at Church in the Forest, Pebble Beach, California.
