Gerald (Jerry) Bronstein

Obituary Condolences

January 16, 1927 - May 20, 2015 Gerald (Jerry) Bronstein passed away peacefully on May 20, surrounded by his family. Jerry was the second child born to Dorothy and Jacob Bronstein in New York City on January 16, 1927. He is pre-deceased by his wife, Carol, his parents, his older brother Gene, and his step-mother, Faye. Jerry and his family moved to California (Pasadena) when he was 9 years old. He excelled at school, entering UCLA after graduating high school at the age of 16 years old. He completed his studies at UCLA as well as a 2-year tour in the US Navy in 1949 at the age of 22 years old. His professional career began soon thereafter in the field of accounting after earning his CPA certification. This formed the foundation for what later became a long, varied and successful career in real estate development, business acquisitions and management. He met his wife, Carolyn, on a blind date and it was love at first site. By the third date they were engaged and married soon after in July 1953. He always said that Carol added magic to his life. Together they raised 4 children, and had 10 grandchildren. They were in love for 58 years, and shared a mutual passion for family, friends, travel, the Dodgers and Lakers, theater and the fine arts. Jerry was a great believer in philanthropy. He gave generously with his time and financial support to many organizations. Most important to him was the Cancer Support Community (previously the Wellness Community) where he served on the board for many years, including Chairman. Today the organization thrives and helps many cancer victims and their families deal with the insidious nature of cancer. He is survived by his children, Nancy (Max) Gisko and their children Sarah (Ryan), Jessica and Mandy; John (Melanie) Bronstein and their children Nicole, Jake and Alisa; Bill (Anita) Bronstein and their children Jenny and Katy; and Bob (Jill) Bronstein and their children Ben and Lily. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: The Cancer Support Community, 1990 S. Bundy, Unit 100, Los Angeles, CA 90025-5240; or Cancer Support Community-Redondo Beach, 109 West Torrance Boulevard, Redondo Beach, California, 90277. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 22 at 9:00 am at Hillside Memorial Park Mortuary 800.576.1994.
