August 21, 1926 - July 17, 2015 Gert Hirschberg passed away on July 17, 2015, one month shy of his 89th birthday. Born on August 21, 1926 in Berlin, Germany, Gert and his parents fled Nazi Germany in 1939, and settled in Bell, California. Gert eventually attended USC, and was a lifelong die-hard Trojan. Gert served as Master Sergeant in the Philippines during WWII. He graduated from Southwestern Law School in 1950, and had an illustrious career practicing law for over thirty-five years. Gert rose to prominence during this time, serving as a pro tem judge, on the Board of Governors of the State Bar of California, as a vice president of the State Bar and a member of the Judicial Council. Gert's greatest professional joy, however, was teaching law, from 1965 through 1995. He taught Torts at Southwestern Law School, the University of West Los Angeles, Laverne, Santa Clara and Monterey Schools of Law, ultimately having taught over 4,000 California lawyers. Gert is survived by, Eleanor, his bride of 64 years, his three daughters, Janis Plaskoff, Vicki Bercovich (Clifford) and Leslie Hirschberg (Michael Friedman), and his grandchildren, Alexis (Jason Kamen), Justin, Emily and Rebecca. He will be sorely missed.
