Gilbert Byron Siegel Obituary
April 19, 1930 - October 18, 2016 Gilbert Siegel passed peacefully on October 18, 2016. He was a native of Los Angeles, California and is survived by his children, Clark Siegel (spouse Maria) and Holly Garnish (spouse John), and 8 grandchildren. His beloved wife Darby passed in 2009. Gilbert spent virtually all of his career as a member of the faculty of the School of Public Administration (later renamed the Price School of Public Policy) at the University of Southern California and as a consultant to various local, national, and international governments. He attended the University of Southern California for his Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Public Administration, and the University of Pittsburgh for his Ph.D. in Political Science. He served in the US Army during the Korean Military Conflict. His professional career included extended overseas assignments in Iran, Brazil, Malaysia, Korea, Thailand, Panama and Palestine. His teaching, research and consulting focused mainly on the fields of human resource management and performance improvement in public organizations. As a member of the faculty of USC's School of Public Administration, he also served in a variety of administrative roles, including Associate Dean of Academic Programs, Director of Doctoral Programs, Director of Masters Degree Programs and Director of Health Administration Programs. He retired from USC after 35 years as the C. C. Crawford Distinguished Professor of Public Productivity Improvement, Emeritus. He authored or co-authored seven books and over 85 articles, chapters, research and consulting reports in the field of Public Administration. He also served on the editorial boards of various professional and academic journals and has been honored for meritorious contributions by various organizations in the US and foreign countries. A private memorial service for family and friends will be held in the Los Angeles area on Saturday, December 10, 2016. For information, please contact the family at [email protected].
