Gloria N. Van Gieson Obituary
March 22, 1922 - November 16, 2016 The first of two daughters, Gloria was born to Ardashes Jivelegian Nishon, an Armenian born dentist, and Florence Viner Nishon. Gloria attended Hunter College HS in NYC and then the University of Michigan where she earned a degree in English and a teaching credential. She taught at Canoga Park Elementary from the 1960's to the 80's and then launched her own travel business, Glorious Adventures, after taking a life-changing trip to India with her close friend, Doris, in 1974. Travel around the world, and especially to India, was her passion until the end. Her last trip to India was in 2011 where she attended a granddaughter's wedding in Bangalore. She married William F. Van Gieson in 1943, with whom she had two daughters, Karen (Turner) and Christine. She is survived by her daughters, 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Greg Turner. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the or a in her name. She wished no funeral, but a party, so there will be a celebration of her life on January 15th, starting at 4pm at the Warner Center Marriott, 21850 Oxnard Street, Woodland Hills, CA 91367.
