Gohar Shaghzo Obituary
February 28 - August 10, 2015 Gohar Manookian Shaghzo was born in Tehran, Iran. Her parents, Manouk and Elizabeth Manookian, were Armenians from Iran. She was the youngest of two siblings, her brother, Shahen Manookian. She met her husband, Vigen Shaghzo, working as a Senior Flight Attendant for Iran Air in 1956. One year later, in 1957, they married in Tehran, Iran. Once married, Gohar decided to leave her successful tenure with Iran Air and become a homemaker. She then moved to Kuwait with her husband where they started a family. The newlyweds, joined Vigen's father, Nerses Shaghzo, to build a hugely successful, multi-national construction company, Ali Sayegh Construction Company. A.S.C.C. Once in Kuwait they had three sons, Armen, born in Kuwait, Vahe, born in Tehran, and Vache, born in London. Gohar and Vigen maintained a home in London, as well as several other homes worldwide. After living in Kuwait for 25 years, Gohar and Vigen decided to reside in America with their three sons. They settled in Beverly Hills, where the sons went to school and continued their higher education. In 1984 Gohar became an American citizen and relished being an American. Gohar and Vigen traveled the world while still maintaining their businesses in Kuwait and London. She loved to travel, cook, garden, enjoyed music, dance and a good laugh with her family and friends. She always sacrificed her needs for the good of her family. She was a selfless philanthropist, she loved animals, children's health and education, and giving to the Armenian Church. Gohar will be remembered as a selfless, altruistic wife, mother and friend, who always had a smile, even when times were tough. She exuded a quiet strength and confidence, always looking forward and never looking back. Gohar was ever calm and serene in her Christian faith and trust in God. Her character and temperament can best be shown from the time she was diagnosed with cancer back in August 2014, until her passing into heaven. Gohar had every right to cry, be mad or even fall into depression after her diagnosis, but instead she loved and lived every moment she was given; neither hard times nor cancer was going to rob her of who she was. Always graceful, elegant and with a sense of humor, until God called her home. She is survived by her three sons, Armen, Vahe and Vache; her daughter in law Alenoush; her son in law Peter Pritchard; and her two beautiful grandchildren whom she cherished: Michael and Lauren Shaghzo. Services will be Friday August 21st, at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills Old North Church Services will begin at 12:00pm followed by the interment, and reception at Liberty Hall at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, we would ask that donations be made to . 1-800-822-6344. Please give St. Jude's the Tribute # 38677719 In Memory of Gohar Shaghzo
