February 1, 1922 - January 3, 2016 Gus Wallace, a longtime native Southern California resident, died on Sunday January 3 of natural causes at his home in Garden Grove with his wife Helen by his side. He was 93. Mr. Wallace was born of Greek ancestry on February 1, 1922, to a family in which he was one of five siblings. He served in the U.S. Navy as an aviator during WW II in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre, enlisting on June 25, 1942. He was a decorated veteran, receiving the Purple Heart among other medals, for his valor. He received an Honorable Discharge on November 23, 1945. After the war, Mr. Wallace married Helen Fredy on June 17, 1950 and was known throughout the community as a beloved friend to everyone. His favorite pastimes included watching UCLA basketball and football, bird-watching at his daughter's Yucaipa valley home and loving animals. Mr. Wallace is survived by his wife Helen, his beloved daughter Codette G. Wallace and his son-in-law James Vowell. A celebration of his life is pending. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the animal .
