Gwendolen Dee Brickell Obituary
November 1, 1932 - August 26, 2016 Gwendolen was born on November 1, 1932, to Ilma and Raymond Thompson. She grew up in Fullerton where she attended Fullerton Union High School. She graduated with honors and went on to attend Stanford University. She married Charles Frederick Brickell on March 17, 1951, and they had three children. She had a lifelong passion for the arts, opera, travel and music, and was an avid reader. She was an artist since childhood and was known for her oil paintings and pen and ink drawings. She acquired her love for opera from her maternal grandfather. Her travels took her to every continent, where she visited over 26 countries and all 50 states. After her loving first husband died in 1998, she was fortunate to meet Greg Hellie on a trip to China in 2000. They married in 2004 and Greg passed away soon after. She was involved with the Fullerton Assistance League and Friends of the Fullerton Arboretum. She was a loving and dedicated mother and grandmother. She is survived by her brother Cedric (Tommy) Thompson, her daughters, Alison Dee (John) Spotts, Leslie Anne (Steven) Dean, and her son Charles Raymond Brickell (Steven Saucer). She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
