Harold "Hal" Posner Obituary
October 15, 1927 - April 28, 2016 Longtime resident of Pacific Palisades, Harold "Hal" Posner passed away on April 28, 2016 at the age of 88. Hal loved numbers and his lucky numbers were 4 and 8. He especially liked the number 8 because it is a double 4. Hal was pleased to have made it to the age of double eights. Hal and sister Evelyn were born to parents Samuel and Helen Posner in Chicago, Illinois. Hal chose to live in Los Angeles upon completion of his service in the US Army after the Korean War. Hal made his way to Los Angeles when the boat bringing him and thousands of his fellow veterans back home from Korea dropped them off in San Francisco. He first fell in love with Los Angeles and decided to finish his college education at UCLA where he then met the love of his life, Joan Ables. Joan and Hal met at a "Sammies" Sigma Alpha Mu mixer while they were both in attendance at the UCLA. The two were happily married in 1953 and together raised their two children, David and Karen, and countless Sun Glo Golden Retrievers. After graduating with honors from UCLA Hal started work with North American Aviation, working as a technical drafter. He went on to work at Capitol Records starting off as an accountant and quickly worked his way up to the position of Vice Chairman. During the 25 plus years Hal worked as Vice Chairman, Capitol Records signed many memorable acts such as The Beatles, Beach Boys, Steve Miller Band, Pink Floyd, Linda Ronstadt, Peter Tosh, and many others. Hal was also a highly regarded coach for the Palisades Park Little League team "The Phillies." Over 20 plus years he coached the Phillies he was able to teach, mentor and empower hundreds of young ball players, some of which went on to play minor and major league baseball. He was an avid tennis player at Palisades Park and Rustic Canyon Park. Hal enjoyed the sport and played until his very last years. His beloved wife, Joan, and his sister Evelyn Goldberg predeceased Hal. He is survived by children; David and Karen Posner, grandchildren; Jasper Posner and Hannah Bella Posner, and niece Sharon Stein. Hal will be laid to rest on Sunday, June 5th, at 11:00 am at: Hillside Memorial Park 6001 W.
