Harriet Sakiko Oakley Obituary
October 24, 1934 - November 4, 2017 Harriet Sakiko "Kiko" Oakley (Uyeda) passed away on November 4, 2017, with her daughter, Jane, by her side. She has moved on to join in heaven her beloved husband, Thomas Francis Oakley, and siblings, brother Tomo Uyeda and sisters Gladys Omiya and Doris Kuba. She was loved by many and she will forever remain in our hearts and memories. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, the daughter of Sataro and Kimi Uyeda, Southern California became her permanent home after moving here in December 1956. She was proud of her Japanese and Hawaiian roots, and ingrained her cultural heritage in all that she did. She established herself as a successful business executive at Western Hoegee, where she met Tom Oakley. After marrying Tom in 1979, she retired at the age of 45, and the hills of Los Feliz in Los Angeles became her home. She loved dining at her favorite neighborhood restaurants, classical music, traveling the world, and giving back to her community with generous philanthropic activities. Overall, family was the most important priority in her life. Throughout the years many worthy causes were recipients of Harriet's kindness, including The Crippled Children's Guild. Also, as a member of the Glendale Symphony Orchestra's women's fundraising group, she was chair for their largest fundraiser, organizing a crowd of over 1,000 donors. Harriet is survived by daughter, Jane Oakley, brothers Harold (Kay), Kenneth, Thomas (Eleanor), and Larry (Jean) Uyeda; sisters Lucy Kaplanian and Bernice Kihara; and many nephews and nieces, great-nephews and nieces, and great-great-nephews and niece. She was blessed to have many more friends who she considered as her extended family. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Rose Hills Memorial Park - Sky Rose Chapel located at 3888 Workman Mill Road, Whittier, CA 90601. A reception will follow immediately after the memorial service.
