September 28, 1918 - October 13, 2015 The adoring husband of Judith Gewertz. He leaves son Toby M. Gewertz, daughter Catherine Gewertz, and granddaughters Sara, Hannah and Jenna. Those who knew him will remember his generosity, boundless ingenuity, and delightful wit. Born in Philadelphia, Harry earned a master's degree in physics from Harvard, and designed aerial cameras that played key roles in enhancing U.S. reconnaissance during World War II. He served on the Manhattan Project, designing the seismograph that measured the first atomic bomb blast, at Alamogordo in 1945. Living in Santa Monica in later years, he ran small businesses, and spent countless happy hours on his beloved woodworking and stained-glass projects.
