Harvey Geller Obituary

Harvey Geller passed away peacefully on March 12, 2009, after a brief illness. Born on June 29, 1922, in New York and raised in New York City, he served in the US Army in WWII under General Patton, fought at the Battle of Argentan, France, and was part of the division who liberated Paris in 1944. After returning from the war, he continued his studies and graduated from New York University.

He moved to California in 1958 where Harvey began a career in the music industry. He was vice president and west coast editor of Cash Box Magazine. Harvey also worked as a columnist, feature writer and reviewer and sales executive for Billboard Magazine and Daily Variety. Prior to this he was employed as Promotion Manager for Bobby Darin. Harvey was a lyricist, whose songs were recorded by groups such as the Kingston Trio and the Brothers Four. Among his compositions were "Blue Water Line," and "Charleston Town." Harvey had a great love of sports and enjoyed music of many genres, with Big Band swing being his favorite. He had a zest for life and an uncanny memory for punch lines. Harvey's wit and charismatic persona will be greatly missed by many.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 27 years, Toni Geller. He is succeeded by his brothers, Marty and Bert Geller of New York, his son, Steven Geller of Las Vegas, and his daughter, Alix Geller of Sonoma County, CA, as well as his six grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Harvey's life will take place at his Tarzana, CA home of 48 years at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 22. Friends and family are invited to come and share memories of Harvey's life.
