Herbert M. Bregman Obituary
April 12, 1926 - July 5, 2018 Sunset in the Old West -- Herbert Marvin Bregman died peacefully in his home in Valley Village – after 92 years of great health – surrounded by his three children, Tom, Jerry and Cindy. The only child of Sylvia Myers Bregman and Samuel Nathan Bregman, Herb was born in New Jersey, graduated from the Milford Academy then joined the Navy at 16 and moved out West to San Diego where he was stationed. Herb fell in love with the CA weather and vowed to stay, and his parents soon followed, settling in "God's Country," the San Fernando Valley. His father, an itinerant salesman, and his mother, an arts and antiques aficionado, Herb was the first in his family to graduate college. Herb attended UCLA and then Loyola Law School, and practiced law for 56 years. Herb married Joyce Rouse Bregman (of blessed memory), who became the mother of his three kids and then, after their divorce, one of his best friends. Together they raised the children, with Herb shuttling the kids back and forth on weekends for many years. Herb also relished his role as husband to his second wife Dannie and stepfather to Lisa, whom he watched over during her formative years. Herb was a good and kind man, a loving husband, an involved and generous father, and a smart and opinionated individualist. Herb loved to travel and explore the world, especially China and Mexico (and in retrospect). Later in life, Herb suffered the heartbreak of losing his third wife Carolyn Smith (of blessed memory), and he was a big fan of political conversations and old Westerns. Herb was an ardent cheerleader for his family; he bragged about each of his three children and was always there for them. "Family First," he would say. In addition to his children and their respective spouses Janet, Jenn, and Alex, Herb is survived by his five grandchildren, Sarah, Liora, Madeleine, Winston and Hudson, his stepchildren Lisa and David, and his second wife Dannie Bregman.
